Instructions on How to Hang Nonwoven Easy-Walls Border

border-hangingYou have purchased a very user friendly wallcovering. The material is a nonwoven fabric. It is easy to hang and simple to remove. Please read and follow these instructions. Apply the product to a clean, properly prepared, primed and painted wall for best hanging and removal performance. It may be hung directly over wallpaper. DO NOT USE ‘VINYL-OVER-VINYL’ ADHESIVE. The prepaste on this product is specially formulated for optimum performance during hanging and removal. The use of prepaste activator or light weight strippable paste, while not required or recommended, generally does not alter product performance. Prior to hanging inspect all spools for consistent pattern, color and run number.

How To Hang

  1. When hanging the border without a ceiling line or chair rail as horizontal reference, use a level to draw a reference line.
  2. Re-roll each spool starting at the end to be hung last, pattern side IN. Roll loosely so that the water can wet the entire prepasted surface.
  3. Fill water trough 2/3 full of clean room temperature water.
  4. Working with one spool at a time, immerse the spool in the water trough ensuring the entire prepasted surface is wet. Do not immerse spool for more than 15-20 seconds.
  5. Remove the spool from the water (unrolling it as you pull) and fold, accordion style (paste side to paste side), as necessary for handling purposes. It is not necessary or recommended to allow the border to “book” for any longer time than is necessary to transport the spool directly to the wall for hanging.
  6. Unfold the first portion of the border and align the edge with your horizontal reference. Unfold the rest of the border and align.
  7. Use a wallpaper smoother or sponge to ensure proper adhesion of the border.
  8. Clean excess paste from surface, before it dries, with a sponge and clean water.
  9. When hanging successive borders, overlap the end of the border already on the wall with the beginning of the new border lining up the designs one on top of the other. Using a straight edge and razor knife, double cut through both pieces. Discard the small end pieces from each strip, butt the ends together and smooth flat to complete the seam.
  10. Hang succeeding borders by repeating steps 4 through 9.

How To Clean

The surface of the product may be cleaned using a soft sponge with mild soap in warm water.

How To Remove

When hung as recommended, this product may easily be removed from the wall without the use of special tools or chemicals. Simply lift the end of each border at a seam until the first 4” (about 10cm) of the border is off of the wall. Grab the border and pull along the wall to remove. Once removed, use a soft sponge and clean warm water to remove paste from the wall.

Easy-Walls is a very user friendly wallcovering. The material used to produce this product is a highly engineered nonwoven fabric. It is easy to hang and simple to remove. Please read and follow these instructions. Apply the product to a clean, properly prepared, primed and painted wall for best hanging and removal performance. The prepaste on this product is specially formulated for optimum performance during hanging and removal. The use of prepaste activator or light weight strippable paste, while not required or recommended, generally does not alter product performance. Prior to hanging inspect all spools for consistent pattern, colour and run number.

How To Hang

  1. Make a plumb line with level or plumb line from the far corner of the room at a distance about 2cm less than the width of the roll.
  2. Cut product into strips to cover the surface being papered. Determine the pattern repeat and cut strips 4″ (10cm) longer that the wall height.
  3. Re-roll each strip from the bottom to top, pattern side IN. Roll loosely so that the water can circulate and wet the entire prepasted surface of the strip when immersed.
  4. Fill water trough 2/3 full of clean room temperature water.
  5. Working with one strip at a time, immerse the strip in the water trough ensuring the entire prepasted surface is wet. DO NOT IMMERSE FOR MORE THAN 15 seconds.
  6. Remove the strip from the water (unrolling it as you pull) and fold (paste side to paste side) as necessary for handling purposes. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO ”BOOK” FOR ANY LONGER THAN NECESSARY TO TRANSPORT THE STRIP DIRECTLY TO THE WALL FOR HANGING.
  7. At the wall, unfold the top portion of the strip and align the edge with the plumb line (allowing 1″ {2cm} of the strip to fit around corner) or the edge of the previously hung strip (making sure to match the pattern repeat). Unfold the rest of the strip and align.
  8. Use a wallpaper smoother or sponge to ensure proper adhesion of the strip, working from top to bottom. Do not over work the sheet. Some small air bubbles are normal and will disappear during drying.
  9. Trim excess paper from top and bottom.
  10. Lightly roll the seams and wipe seams once more with a sponge.
  11. Hang succeeding strips by repeated steps 5 through 11.

Frequently asked questions on Chesapeake’s Nonwoven Easy-Walls Wallcovering

What is nonwoven fabric?

Chesapeake’s nonwoven fabric is an environmentally friendly fabric made of synthetic fiber, paper pulp and laytex resin binder. This special blend of natural materials is what makes the wallpaper washable, breathable and easier to remove.

What is the best wall preparation prior to hanging Chesapeake’s nonwoven fabric?

Chesapeake’s nonwoven fabric should be applied to a clean, primed and painted wall in order to achieve the best hanging performance and, eventually, complete removal when redecorating. (Most new construction will have one coat of a builder’s primer and at least one coat of latex paint)

Can you hang Chesapeake’s nonwoven fabric on satin, semi gloss and gloss painted walls?

Yes, it will hang beautifully on all of these surfaces.

Can you hang over a wallcovering primer?

Yes.

Can you use prepaste activators or lightweight adhesives, pasting the back of Chesapeake’s nonwoven fabric and still achieve the same results?

Yes, while not required or recommended, this application generally does not alter product performance.

Can the wall be pasted for dry hanging?

Again, while not recommended, lightweight strippable pastes generally will not alter product performance.

Can you hang Chesapeake’s nonwoven Easy Walls on previously papered walls?

Borders can be applied on vinyl coated or solid vinyl wallcoverings following hanging instructions. Do not use vinyl-over-vinyl adhesives. We are still testing the application of nonwoven fabric bolts over vinyl coated or solid vinyl wallcoverings.

How easy is it to work with Chesapeake’s nonwoven Easy Walls product once it is on the wall?

The repositioning characteristics of Chesapeake’s nonwoven fabric are better than those of paperbacked vinyl due to its improved durability and stability. The entire sheet can be removed and repositioned easily with no creasing. Easy-Walls™ also performs beautifully in and around corners.

How do we address Air Bubbles?

If there are air bubbles after application they will dissipate quickly due to the product’s breathability. You will also find that this product dries completely in hours, not days.

Does Chesapeake’s nonwoven Easy-Walls trim the same as vinyl products?

It trims much better than paper-backed vinyl products because there is less of a tendency to tear. We still recommend changing razor blades frequently for nice clean cuts.

How do you clean Chesapeake’s nonwoven Easy-Walls?

The surface of the product may be cleaned using a soft sponge with mild soap and warm water.

How do I remove this product from the wall?

When hung as recommended, this product may easily be removed from the wall without the use of special tools or chemicals. Simply lift the top corners of each strip and pull down from both sides until you have the first 4” to 5” (about 10cm) of the top of the strip off the wall. Next grab the strip firmly in both hands and pull straight down to remove the entire sheet. When all strips are removed, use a sponge and clean warm water to remove any paste from the wall.
